Literacy – ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts.  Media – physical objects used to communicate with - mass communication through physical objects. - communication channels through which we disseminate news, music, movies, education, promotional messages and other data. (T.O. pg. 3)  Information – covers processed data, knowledge derived from study, experience, instruction, signals or symbols. - often used to describe knowledge of specific events or situations that has been gathered or received by communication, intelligence, or news reports. (I. pg. 2)  Media and Information Literacy - essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively. - According to UNESCO, MIL recognizes the primary role of information and media in people’s everyday lives.  Media – derived from the Latin word Medius, which means “middle”. - plural of medium - tool people use to mediate or facilitate the transfer of communication between a sender and a receiver.  Mass Media – type of media used to reach a large audience.  Media Literacy – ability to read, analyze, evaluate and produce communication in a variety of media forms. - builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and selfexpression necessary for citizens of a democracy.  Information Literacy – set of abilities which require individuals to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate, and use it effectively.  Technology Literacy – capability to use digital technology and knowing when and how to use it
