Three Common Models
of Health
The medical model is a model
of health which suggests that
disease is detected and
identified through a systematic
process of observation,
description, and
differentiation, in accordance
with standard accepted
procedures, such as medical
examinations, tests, or a set of
symptom descriptions.

Environmental health examines
the interaction between the
environment and our health.
We use the following
definitions: Environmental
health refers to aspects of
human health (including quality
of life) that are determined by
physical, chemical, biological,
social and psychosocial factors
in the environment.
The Medical Models
