REASONS BEHIND THE ABSENTEEISM IN GUINAYANGAN NATIONAL HIGH

SCHOOL AMONG GRADE 10 STUDENTS YEAR 2022-

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION

Absence nowadays cannot be separated from the individual students. This absence of

phenomena, it is easy to see even likened it has become a necessity in the nature of students.

So it is not surprising if this habit continues to fall proceeds among school students as

examples of primary, secondary, and even at university level, the problem still persist.

Going to school regularly is crucially important for a student’s education and social skills.

Chronic absentee students are placed at a disadvantage both socially and academically. They

miss out on critical stages of social interaction and development with their peers and at the

same time impacts negatively on their academic progress. This can result to low self- esteem,

social isolation and dissatisfaction that could well have precipitated non- attendance in the

first place.

In the school of Guinayangan National High School where the researchers study about the

absenteeism of the students also facing the same thing, the absence of student in class getting

worse. Some students were known how education important is. And in this generation there

were students who let their studies because of their different problem and reasons that causes

of absenteeism.

Objective of the study

The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that causes the students absenteeism. Also

to identify the causes why students become truant from school. The researchers take

responsibility to investigate and find a solution to this problem from continuing to happen.

And this will eventually rebound to the better performance of the students, teachers, and the

school in general.

Statement of the Problem

2. What are the Reasons that causes the students absenteeism:

2 Financial Stability

2 Self- Inquiry

3. Based on the study, what action plan can be proposed?

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The study is a descriptive quantitative type of research which uses survey questionnaire and

data analysis. It is defined as the collection of data in order to test hypothesis to answer

questions concerning the current status of the study. This research or study also included all

those studies that support present facts concerning the nature and state of the research topic.

This research is descriptive because of the relationship between the reasons that causes the

students absenteeism, which was administered directly to the respondents in gathering data

on the assessment of Factors that causes the students absenteeism in Guinayangan National

High School.

Population and Sample of the Study

The population of the study is to composed of 30 students in ten section, in Guinayangan

National High School. This researcher decided to include all Grade 10 students as a sample to

make the result of the study more reliable.

Instrumentation

In this study, the main data gathering instrument that was used in the survey data that was

formulated by the researcher with the guidance of the thesis adviser.

The Likert Scale is a rating scale that’s often used when surveying your customers regarding

their experiences with your brand – from the service they were provided to the overall

effectiveness of your product.

It’s one of the most popular question types used by customers of Field boom (our survey

software) when collecting audience feedback.

The Likert scale is a series of questions or items that ask your customers to select a rating on

a scale that ranges from one extreme to another, such as “strongly agree” to “strongly

disagree.

Hypotheses of the study

The major concern of this study is to find out the factors that causes the students absenteeism.

Also to identify the causes why students become truant from school.

Student who experienced financial problem is one of the most reasons of absenteeism than

having lack of motivation.

The illustration in Table 2 shows that 33% of the Grade 10 students agree that having a

family problem causes the students not to go to school. 56% of the Grade 10 students

agree that having broken family and family misunderstanding have a highly negative effect

on the students, and then 56% of most families experience some hurdles at times.

The illustration in Table 2 shows that 40% of the grade 10 students strongly agree and agree

that being absent significantly reduce your understanding and learning about the lessons.

36% of students agree that giving too many assignment can cause students to get bored

and lose interest to school, and then 33% of students strongly agreed that absenteeism can

cause low test scores and lack of requirements.

The illustration in table 2 shows that 66% of students agreed that due to lack of money

or financial problems can affect students attendance because of transportation expenses.

Second there are 46,67% that agreed that parents who can’t provide allowance to their

sons/daughter thus cause them to miss a class because of lack of allowance. Lastly 56% of

students disagree you don’t need to attend school because of your work or side job.
