What are the principal forms of government ......

  1. As to number of persons exercising sovereign power? a. Monarchy: the sovereign power in monarchy is exercised by a single individual. It is typically a king, queen, emperor, empress. The sovereign is usually inherited and passed down through generations within the family. i. Absolute monarchy- from the word absolute, the King/Queen/Empress/Emperor has no limit and has the absolute power. This are often hereditary monarchies. ii. Limited Monarchy-from the world limited. This means that although the monarchy is kept, it will be checked by judicial and legislative bodies. b. Democracy: the sovereign power in democracy is held by the people as a whole. Citizens have the right to vote and participate in the decision-making processed by the government. i. Direct or pure democracy- it is a form of democracy in which people decides policy initiatives directly. ii. Indirect or representative democracy- comes from the word representative, the people vote for representative who then enact policy initiatives. c. Aristocracy: the sovereign power in democracy is help by a selected few individuals who belongs in to the privileged class
