Alvarez took part in the reorganization of the Nacionalista Party that aimed to secure the Philippine’s Independence from the United States of America. He was the Captain-General of the Magdiwang Council’s Forces. With his courage, he fought and defeated the Spaniards, and supported the revolutionary cause until his retirement.

Katipunan and The

Revolution: Memoirs

of A General

The purpose of the election that happened in Tejeros is to re-establish the council for equality and to achieve a well- organized and well-runned, and rational government.

Magdiwang ● Jacinto Lumbreras ● Andres Bonifacio ● Mariano Alvarez ● Pascual Alvarez ● Ariston Villanueva ● Mariano Trias ● Diego Mojica ● Emiliano de Dios ● Santiago Alvarez ● Artemio Ricarte ● Santos Nocon ● Luciano San Miguel ● Pablo Mojica ● Severino de las Alas ● Santiago Rillo

The bias of the author is that it focuses mainly on the election that happened and Alvarez, being a member of one of the factions - Magdiwang Council, was very noticeable as the narrative was told in the perspective of the Magdiwang Council.

Similarities There are similarities in how they portrayed the happenings in the election at Tejeros.

Differences > It was Baldomero Aguinaldo who initiated to end the meeting > Diego Mojica warned the Supremo - Andres Bonifacio, that he was being cheated on, and that most ballots were already filled out even before distribution

rights and lastly, its main purpose is to regain its freedom from the Spaniards.

factions but the author clearly exhibit the opinions and discernment of both factions - the Magdiwang and Magdalo Council,

Differences > It was Supremo Andres Bonifacio who initiated to end the meeting > Nobody told the Supremo that he was being cheated on, instead he felt it himself that the opposition was cheating on him

C. Finding/Conclusion

In your examination of the sources,

what did you find out?

In my examination of the sources, it surprised me to find out that even before back then, cheating on elections was already prevalent at that time. We might not notice or feel it, but I still believe that we are still suffering from the consequences that our history left us. But one thing that I really liked about the narrative on the Katipunan and the Revolution is the emphasis on the fact that the social standing in life will never define someone’s worth, value, and capabilities. Andres Bonifacio defending that equality and justice should be prioritized instead of their social standing was one of the greatest thing I read and it validates the fact that not everyone excels on the same things but everyone have different fields they excel to so it is not just right to insult someone based on their social standing in life.
