GROUP 5 PURCOM (USE OF COMMUNICATION)

Shawn was almost perfect. A graduating architecture student, a sensible man, and a responsible son any parent would wish for. But he felt something lacking. He often felt he was living to her mother's idea of what he should be, to the point that he started doubting of what she really wants. (Scene 1): Shawn was called by his teacher, Ms. Castro to her office because she said she had something important to tell him. Teacher: Shawn, I'm sorry but I have to be honest with you, you're failing. All of your teachers are complaining about it. This is your exam during the midterms and as you can see you aced it like you always do that's why we are surprised to see that you failed your exams after. You're always late when passing your projects. What is happening to you Shawn? Do you have any problem that you want to talk about? Shawn: I'm really sorry Ma'am, it's just things have been really tough lately. But I promise I will do better next time. Please give me a chance. Ms. Castro: Okay. You're one of our best student, Shawn, so we're going to give you another chance. But if this continue to happen, I can't promise you that you can still graduate. Shawn: Thank you so much Ma'am. Anya: Shawn, was it bad? Hailey: What did she said? Shawn: Everything's fine, you have nothing to worry about. Hailey: Are you sure? Shawn: Yes (smile) (Scene 2): Shawn came home exhausted because of the news. He saw his mother sitting on the dinning while waiting for him, he came to her and sat on the empty seat. Mother: So how's school, Shawn? (with her serious tone) Shawn: It's fine, Mom. Mother: Just make sure that you're still a candidate for Magna, Shawn. Remember that I want you to graduate, Magna Cumlaude like I did. You know, I was the top of my class before and I want you to be like that too I don't want a failure in my house. So, Don't disappoint me. (Deafening silence) Joyce: Yes, Mom (Scene 3): But Shawn continued to fail. Shawn was running fast holding the handful of plates he had to pass. He was late again and he was chasing his teacher who left 30 minutes ago. Shawn: Sir! Excuse me Sir, here are my plates. I'm really sorry that i'm late. (breathless)

Mr. Benitez: You're already 30 minutes late, Mr. Shawn. And this is not the first time that you did this to me. I'm sorry but I can't accept it anymore. I'm so disappoint of you, Shawn. We gave you a second chance but you wasted it. I'm sorry but I have to talk to your Mother. Then, he left Shawn standing there hopeless. (Scene 4): Shawn is eating with her friends in the Cafeteria. They keep talking but Shawn is too preoccupied with her thoughts to even respond. He keeps thinking about he's failing grade and the pressure that he's receiving from his Mom. Hailey: So, what are your plans after graduation? Joyce: I think I would travel and enjoy first for a year. You know, school has been so stressful, so I want to take a break from everything before working my ass off. Trina: Me too! School made me so haggard. I want to be at peace even just for short period of time. Anya: How about you, Shawn? What are your plans after graduation? (Shawn did not respond, he's just looking at the surrounding) psychological noise Anya: Shawn? Trina: Hey Shawn? Shawn: Huh? What are you saying? Joyce: What's the matter with you Shawn? Your always preoccupied. Shawn: I'm sorry, I've been thinking a lot lately. Anya: About what? Shawn: Nothing (Shake head) Hailey: Are you sure you're okay? Shawn: I'm fine (fake smile) (Scene 5): Confrontation. Shawn was sitting on the corner of his room when his Mom barge into his room and slap him. He was shock and looked at his mom with disbelief. Mother: What are these things I heard? Explain yourself, Shawn! (Furious) Shawn: What are you talking about, Mom? Mother: Is it true that you Failed? Shawn: How did you find out? (Shock) Mother: So it's true? Hailey told me! Shawn: Hailey?

(Scene 6): The relationship between Shawn and his mother became good. She just supported him and he did his best to improve his studies. Hailey asked for forgiveness, Shawn forgave her and they became friends again. He also asked the professors for another chance with the promise that he will try his best to improve. Everything went well, until their graduation day came. Anya: Omg! I still can't believe that we are about to graduate! Joyce: Right? after all our hardships, we will finally graduate! Trina: It was all worth it. Hailey: Congratulations to our Cumlaude! Shawn: And Congratulations too, to our Magna! I love you guys! All of them: Congratulations Future Architects! (Shawn left his friends who were having fun then went to his mother who was smiling at him) Mother: Congratulations, Anak! Shawn: Thank you, Ma. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to fulfill your wish.
