CERAE The Benefits of Mother Tongue
Content
Mother tongue education refers to education that uses language that
children are most familiar with. Children are most familiar with the language they speak
at home. This language, if taught in school, makes comprehension, understanding and
learning easier. It starts from where the learners are, and from what they already know
and develop a strong foundation in their mother language before learning additional
languages. Children learn better and faster in a language they can understand
preventing delays in learning, they enjoy school more, they feel more at home, and
pupils tend to show increased self-esteem.
Experience
The knowledge of the native language not only brings confidence but
also a sense of awareness in an individual. No matter what you aspire to be, people
with a good grip on the mother tongue always have an upper hand among others. Thus,
facilitating great confidence in understanding and communicating different sectors also
adopting skills required in a sector quickly and effectively. Knowing your mother tongue
well is a matter of pride. It boosts one’s confidence and creates awareness in the
individual’s mind while also helping them connect with their cultural identity in a better
manner.
Reflection
I believe the main purpose of learning to speak in mother tongue is to
develop the child’s cognitive and so also learning can be simple, easier, and effective.
Being fluent in the mother tongue, which is also known as the native language, benefits
the child in many ways. It connects him to his culture, ensures better cognitive
development, and aids in the learning of other languages.

To improve the quality of education, language policies need to take
