POTOTAN ON MENTAL ILLNESSES AND ITS EFFECTS IN THEIR CHILDREN

CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM: BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

This chapter describes the background of the study, conceptual framework, paradigm of the study, statement of the study, hypothesis, significance of the study, definition of terms, and scopes and limitations. Background of the Study Parents carry the burden or duty of taking care of their children/child. They cook, work, feed, and clean in a repetitive manner but it is all for the sake of their children’s future. But with the presence of today’s struggles like the pandemic and inflation rates here in the Philippines, our parents were even more pressured and their opportunities became more limited. This pressure turns into emotions, those emotions are then being bottled up, but sooner or later, it will to turn into an outburst which affects their children in some sort of matter. Our mind goes through a lot everyday. Any type of action that we do comes from our mental capacity, if it somehow becomes disoriented or disturbed and if we show signs of abnormality in our actions, we would no longer be considered mentally healthy. One must be mentally stable in order for us to feel happy and content in life. But due to some events happening in our world right now, we experience some difficulties and that causes a lot of mental trauma. Those mental traumas stick to you, it holds you by the neck tightly, affecting your day-to-day activities. Sooner or later,

What is the level of awareness based on the data acquired from the questionnaires from the following: A. Parents in Abangay B. Parents in Cahaguikican C. Parents in Bagacay D. Parents in Igang E. Parents in Tumcon Ilaya
Is there a significant difference on the level of awareness among the parents in selected barangays of Pototan based on the data acquired from the questionnaires from the following: A. Parents in Abangay B. Parents in Cahaguikican C. Parents in Bagacay D. Parents in Igang E. Parents in Tumcon Ilaya

Level of Awareness on Mental Illnesses and itseffects in their Children

Hypothesis Based on the preceding problems, the following hypothesis were tested:

There is no significant difference on the level of awareness among the parents in selected barangays of Pototan based on the data acquired from the questionnaires from the following. A. Parents in Abangay B. Parents in Cahaguikican C. Parents in Bagacay D. Parents in Igang E. Parents in Tumcon Ilaya

Significance of the Study This study will be significant and functional of the following: Household. This study will spread awareness about mental illness to each member of the household. Couples. Couples planning to adopt or have an offspring will be able to know if they are ready for a situation regarding mental illnesses. Future Researchers. Future Researchers will benefit by using our research on a similar study.

Definition of Terms Anxiety. A feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness. It can be a normal reaction to stress. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships. (Kidshealth, 2022)

Schizophrenia. Is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling. (Mayoclinic, 2022)

Scopes and Limitations This study was only limited to the common types of mental illnesses. If proven aware, the people in their households, couples and future researchers will benefit this study. The purpose of this study is to determine the potency level of awareness among parents in selected barangays in Pototan on mental illnesses. The items needed to conduct this experiment will be gathered on October 28, 2022. We guaranty the researchers’ and respondents’ safety during this conduct by following the health protocols correctly.
