Caring and Maintaining Crops
JOB SHEET 3-
Title: Construct vegetable trellis
Performance Objective: Given the necessary tools, you should be able to construct vegetable trellis for your vegetable crops.
Materials: Wooden pole, plastic twine (black and white) and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools and Equipment: Bolo, scissor and digging bar.
Steps/Procedure: 1. Wear the appropriate PPE. 2. Prepare the needed tools and materials. 3. Proceed to your agricultural crop production vegetable garden. 4. Secure wooden pole/s as your trellis post. 5. Dig a hole using the digging bar to install you trellis post. 6. Assemble a vegetable trellis using plastic twine. 7. Complete the installation of twine trellis in your garden plot. 8. Initially train your cucumber plants to grip or cling to the twine.

Title: Monitor pests and disease incidence/occurrence
Performance Objective: Given the necessary tools and materials, you should be able to monitor pests incidence/occurrence in your vegetable garden and cacao orchard, and submit a documentary report (recommendation)
Materials: Ballpen, paper and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools and Equipment: Meter stick , bolo/guna and pail.
Steps/Procedure: Task 1 – Monitor pests incidence in the vegetable garden 1. Wear the appropriate PPE. 2. Prepare the needed tools and materials. 3. Visit a vegetable garden in the school campus 4. Observe the whole agro-ecosystem environment and record your general observation of the field. 5. Randomly pick 5 sample plants in the garden. 6. Observe at the canopy (top), middle part and at the base of the plant for the presence of insects and record you observation. 7. Also, observe the 5 sample plants for plant health (height, leaf color, etc), disease occurrence and leaf damages. 8. Take a picture of insects or diseases/abnormality of the plant found in the area. 9. Record all your observations in a sheet of paper. 10. Likewise, determine/observe weed density as abundant, frequent or absent. 11. Overall, observe and take note of the general crop situation. 12. Discuss with your group and recommend actions based on your observations (recommendations may include insect pests and/or weed control measures, fertilization and water management). 13. Submit a documentary report (recommendation) on pest management Task 2 – Monitor pests incidence in the cacao orchard

- Take a picture of insects or diseases/abnormality of the plant found in the area.
- Record all your observations in a sheet of paper.

Title: Collect and identify weeds
Performance Objective: Given the necessary tools and materials, you should be able to collect and identify weeds, and submit a documentary report.
Materials: Ballpen, paper and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools and Equipment: Bolo/guna and pail.
Steps/Procedure: 1. Wear the appropriate PPE. 2. Prepare the needed tools and materials. 3. Visit the DNAS campus agricultural crop production areas. 4. Observe the presence of weeds. 5. Collect at least 25 different weeds. 6. Place it in the pail or any container and bring it in the assessment area. 7. Properly place the weeds in the table. 8. Classify the weeds as grass, sedges and broadleaf. 9. Identify (give the common name) of each weeds. 10. Take an individual picture of the weeds. 11. Send it in the GC with common name written on it.

Title: Apply fertilizer in vegetables
Performance Objective: Given the necessary tools and materials, you should be able to apply fertilizer in the vegetable garden.
Materials: Fertilizer (urea) and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools: Pail, dipper and wooden ladle
Steps/Procedure: 1. Wear the appropriate PPE. 2. Prepare the needed tools and materials. 3. Prepare 1-tinapa can of urea (46-0-0) fertilizer (7-28 DAT) or complete (14-14-14) fertilizer (29-44 DAT) 4. Prepare 16 liters of water in the pail. 5. Add/dissolve the 1-can urea or complete fertilizer into the water in the pail. 6. Stir the solution to mix it thoroughly. 7. Go to the vegetable garden. 8. Apply the solution in the plant’s base thru drenching or fertigation.

Title: Perform pruning
Performance Objective: Given the necessary tools/equipment, you should be able to perform pruning of the cacao trees
Materials: Personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools and Equipment: Pruning shear, pruning saw and step ladder.
Steps/Procedure: 1. Wear the appropriate PPE. 2. Prepare the needed tools/equipment. 3. Go to the cacao orchard. 4. Select 5 cacao trees to be prune. 5. Inspect the cacao tree and remove low hanging branches or those that grow downwards. 6. Remove newly grown side shoot or chupons on the stem. 7. Also, remove all dead, diseased and badly damaged branches. 8. Likewise, remove all damaged/diseased/dried cacao fruits or pod. 9. Complete pruning of the 5 cacao trees

Title: Perform cacao fruit/pod bagging
Performance Objective: Given the necessary materials/tools/equipments, you should be able to perform bagging of cacao fruits/pods.
Materials: Plastic sleeves and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tools and Equipment:
Steps/Procedure:
- Wear the appropriate PPE.
- Prepare the needed tools and materials.
- Go to the cacao orchard
- Find for a newly develop battery size cacao pod.
- Insert the plastic sleeve individually in the newly develop battery size cacao pod.
- Tie the plastic sleeve at the upper part.
- Complete the sleeving or fruit bagging of cacao pods (20 pods per trainee).
