Peer assessment is a grading system that is used in the University of the People. It is primarily used as it allows students to learn different writing styles, strategies and critical thinking from other students. The benefits of using a peer grading are that it allows students to engage in a team as business in the real world is often team-based and to succeed you must often work with others regardless if you like them or not. Peer grading is not without its challenges because in University of the People they are many students from all over the world and your peers might be influenced by political, religion, human rights and they might make a grading decision based on this alone. I do believe most of the students in University of the People are open minded and will do their best in grading other students work based on the work alone and not be influenced by opinion. Another challenge faced with peer assessment is understanding certain context used by students because as mentioned above they are students from all over the world and what you think someone is trying to say might be totally different from what they are really trying to say. I am a very simple person, so I’ll keep my strategy basic and down to the point just like this writing assignment. When reading someone else’s work I’ll rate based on the following, do they answer all the questions and are the answers easy enough to understand.
