this research is to investigate the application of the Orff learning methods in preschool piano
education.
1 Background study............................................................................................................................
In china, most of the musical learning mostly emphasizes song-singing and the memorization of
lyrical tunes, which does not foster students' enjoyment of music. Therefore, there is a need to
apply Orff’s learning approach to teach children musical instruments especially the piano
educations. Children and music teachers have embraced the system's original and distinctive
educational philosophy and teaching approaches that have had a massive influence on the
advancement of Chinese music education. The "basic" "music education concept" is the central
notion of Orff's music educational approach, claim Stephen et al. (2016) and Johansson, Puroila,
and Emilson (2016). Orff refers to his music as being "Elementary." It makes use of kids'
preferred form. To develop children 's perception of music, particularly rhythm and hearing, in
order for them to experience the joy of music, activities such as children's songs, applauding,
games, stories, singing, etc (Chen et al.,2017). Kids in preschool range in age from three to six,
and their delicate finger muscles are still developing. Currently, the emotion and enjoyment of
music have to be developed rather than the technical abilities. Preschool piano instruction can be
adapted to fit the needs of Orff's music theory.
1 Statement of the problem................................................................................................................
Orff Music encourages people to enter the music industry naturally. Children's attention in music
can be piqued, their emotions can be stimulated by music, and their musical sense can be
developed via the usage of language, activity, performance, creativity, and other all-
encompassing techniques. You gain the most extensive and thorough musical experience
possible from it. The current state of preschool music rhythmic activities is fraught with issues.
Children's musical and non-musical growth has been hampered by many teachers' outdated
educational theories and instructional strategies. The purpose of the particular performance is to
stress the development of skills and simple imitation (Kilic, 2017; Rajan, 2017). Tasks involving
music rhythms cannot be done in accordance with the laws of the kid's conscious. For them,
strict instruction is instruction, and activities cannot start with feelings. Lessen your focus on the
capability and quality of rhythm (Yan, 2017). Additionally, students' initiative and inventiveness
are not encouraged by the traditional method of teaching of "teacher teaching, child learning."
1 Research objectives..........................................................................................................................
The main and general objective of this research proposal is to look at the applications of the
Orff's Music teaching method in preschool piano education. However there are specific research
objectives that this research try to investigate. These are;
1. To investigate impacts of Orff’s music teaching method on the preschool piano
education.
2. To investigate the significances of the Orff’s music teaching method on the preschool
piano education.
3. To look at the challenges that come with the Orff’s music teaching method on the
preschool piano education.
1 Research questions..........................................................................................................................
The following are the research questions of the research.
1. What are the impacts of Orff’s music teaching method on the preschool piano education?
2. What are the significances of the Orff’s music teaching method on the preschool piano
education?
3. What are some of the challenges that come with the Orff’s music teaching method on the
preschool piano education?
the notions that music is an important channel for preschool children's creativity, a beneficial
tool for ensuring that kids are included in society, and a way to support kids' emotional growth.
On the other hand, the basis of Orff's music education and the factors that shape Orff's music
education idea are the fundamentals of Orff's teaching approach, or "original" musical
teaching and "original" education approach. The central tenet of Orff's approach to teaching
music and the essential cornerstone of his educational philosophy is novelty. The Orff lesson
plan has some crucial components, such as using body motions, body rhythms, or Orff
equipment for basic rhythm patterns. Simple tunes can also be taught to small groups of pupils in
conjunction to these activities to boost their growth. Kids have a thorough and broad
understanding of music, like it, and experience it in a musically rich setting, enabling them to
listen to, study, and make music (Liu, 2020). The emphasis on the pupils' inner growth is the
most important aspect of Orff's approach to music lessons. It demands that the learners commit
themselves to the world of music through their bodies, expression, and musical equipment and
convey their inner life in a special way rather than seeing music as a nuisance or utility. Students
are inherently calm, quick, and rooted in the knowledge of music, music, presentation,
performance, and language culture when music is becoming a child's own demands.
Teachers must also carry out a variety of improvisation activities and encourage students at all
levels to actively participate. At the same time, Orff's approaches for teaching music do not place
a strong emphasis on getting students to perform and sing music quickly. Learners encounter
both physical and cerebral pleasure while learning about art using Orff's teaching methodology.
Some academics contend that because while teaching music, instructors should base their lessons
on specific concerns (Liu, 2019)
1 Methodology.....................................................................................................................................
The primary research methodology used in this proposal is qualitative. Through interviews,
discussions, and reflective logs, this technique examines how parents of young children feel
about the use of Orff's method in preschools in Sichuan, China. This approach takes into account
that respondents examine their comprehension of Orff's music teaching strategy from a variety of
angles according to various individual preferences, backgrounds, political perspectives, social
experiences, as well as music perceptions, and ultimately critically appraise the issues with Orff's
music teaching strategy in child piano instruction by gathering their feedback. To investigate the
issues in a small group, reflect the issues in a small group through data, and then impartially
assess instruction, qualitative data gathering techniques and methodologies are utilized.
Collect Data Sources
In this study, seven children’s parents were invited to participate in the study. Before
starting such activity, research staff explained the procedure and purpose of the study, data
collection procedure, etc. to the parents (Hammarberg & de, 2016). The data of this study are
from the seven children and their parents. In addition, these seven parents have many years of
piano learning experience, and their views on piano lessons have certain reference value. Each
student will receive 8 weeks of Orf Schulwick piano training courses. Each child will be trained
for 30 minutes each time, and the parents of the students will also participate in the training. In
addition, in the fourth week, all seven students participated in the Orf Shuerwick group
assistance course, which mainly included three aspects: musical ability, singing and rhythm.
After these individual courses and collaborative courses, parents and children will be interviewed
prepared in advance, and their dialogue will be recorded. Finally, they will cooperate to write a
curriculum reflection log. All specific data will be based on the above procedures. The views of
parents and children on the Orf Schulwick curriculum will be collected.
Data collection process and reasons
Semi structured interview will be selected in the study. Because of the openness and
flexibility of this approach, this interview can more widely reveal their views on the Orff
Schulwick method. With the consent of the parents, each interview will use audio tapes to record
their interview information. The parents have a week to carefully consider their own views on
the curriculum, so as to better reflect their problems found in the children's acceptance of the Orf
Schulwick group curriculum. After collecting the data, the data analysis step will be performed.
Since the main method of this study is interview, all the interview texts will be summarized by
computer. According to the purpose of the study, the corresponding data analysis standards were
formulated, including the relationship between curriculum and children's creativity, and the
relationship between curriculum and children's musical ability.
Interview Contents:
1. Do you agree that the Orff's Music Teaching Method could improve Children’s
10
other forms, with strong comprehensiveness. In this regard, the introduction of Orff's teaching
into the music classroom of preschool education can integrate singing, dancing and movement
together, and ultimately better express the ideas in music.
The results of parents' interviews also reflect their role in improving children's ensemble
performance by Orff music. The Orff method brings students together to improve their music
cooperation ability.
