Mirisa Clendinen Tretracycline 44 Antibiotic

Broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits microorganism growth by preventing protein synthesis

- IV

- PO

  • Milk products, calcium/iron supplements, magnesium laxatives, and antacids reduce absorption of medication.

  • Oral contraceptives (tetracycline reduces effectiveness)

  • Pregnancy risk D (positive evidence of human fetal risk)

  • If used after 4th month of pregnancy can stain first set of teeth but not permanent teeth

  • Use cautiously in those with liver and kidney disease

  • GI discomfort (nausea vomiting, cramping, esophageal ulceration)

  • Tooth discoloration

  • Hepatotoxicity

  • Intense Sunburn (photosensitivity)

Treats acne, chlamydia, pneumonia, Lyme disease, anthrax, h pylori Gi infections, and periodontal disease.

  • If used for STd make sure partner is also being treated

  • Do not use in children younger than 8

  • Monitor I and O

  • Monitor for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Decrease in signs and symptoms of infection

  • Resolution of acne

  • Resolution of yeast infection (vaginal, oral, bowels)

  • Take medication on empty stomach with 8oz of water

  • Do not take medication just before lying down

  • Complete the entire course of therapy

  • Use additional contraceptives during course of therapy

  • Wear protective clothing
